Cleaning Car Showroom Tiled Flooring

Typically, car showrooms are colour neutral. Cars may be available in a multitude of colours and hues and to have anything other than antiseptic walls and décor is inviting a potential unsightly clash of colours. That goes for flooring too, and the tiles flooring that is usually found in car showrooms is usually either white or some other inoffensive colour.

But the tiled floors also have to put up with another issue; the periodic moving of cars as stock is sold and replaced. This can be a major problem since, while tiling is hardwearing, its highly low-friction surface means that cars moving as even very low speeds might struggle to get grip and that can lead to difficult to remove rubber marks on flooring. But that’s not all; even very new cars can have the occasional leakage of oil and other fluids and they can leave nasty permanent marks if they are not dealt with promptly.

In many cases, that means a good wipe and a hand polish, but there are lots of marks where this simply isn’t sufficient and something more substantial such as diamond polishing will finally do the trick.

Plainly, this isn’t an option on simple glazed tiles as it will attack the tough glass surface and expose the soft clay-based material below, but is certainly something that can be carried out on materials such as terrazzo flooring. Terrazzo is a composite material of marble chippings set into cement that is used as a hard, sustainable floor covering in in both tough industrial situations as well as being a highly decorative material to grace a home. The beauty of this material is that it doesn’t have the need for the glazed surface that regular tiles need. Therefore, it can be cleaned effectively with normal methods, but can also be vibro-polished if the marks and stains are too substantial and something tougher is required.

Hardwearing areas like car showrooms can benefit greatly from having a tough, stain resistant floor type like terrazzo, which will resist absorption from any kind of wet material, but can be bought back to its original lustre by professional diamond polishing if required.

The floors of car showrooms usually don’t get too dirty and even rubber ‘squeal’ marks can usually be removed with a good cleaner and a little elbow grease, but if you do have unsightly marks that need a something a little extra, diamond polishing is always an option, if you have a flooring type that it can be applied to.
